I know I’ve written about this before, but it’s still very relevant. I’m having more and more home buyers contact me for duplex properties. Not necessarily from a landlord investment side of things, but for more multigenerational living purposes. What does multigenerational living mean exactly? To put it simply, it’s living with relatives under one roof: Home buyers wanting to live with their adult kids or elderly parents.
This is where duplexes are becoming more in demand. Some duplexes are upper and lower while some are side by side. This allows complete privacy while at the same time being SUPER CLOSE to your loved one. So what is so different about a duplex style property rather than a larger single family home with the basement set up for extra living space? Did you read the part about complete privacy? With certain duplexes, you may not share a garage, basement access…your living space is completely YOURS.
IS this the right living arrangements for you and your family? Maybe. Maybe just finishing off your basement is the right living arrangement for you instead. But with the rise of demand for more and more multigenerational type houses, the demand for duplexes will only get stronger.
